Like The Thin Red Line, it was this roaming overview, not completely concerned with linear plot. But now, with the benefit of press materials, it is common knowledge. I may sugar coat the praise by labeling a film as a “modern day masterpiece” or “some kind of small masterpiece” but a genuine masterpiece is damn hard to come by, especially as years progress.

In short, I can think of two: Steven Soderbergh’s “Traffic” (2000) and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood” (2007). There have been many other great films since the year 2000, but as far as masterpiece goes…

I’m actually working on an essay right now about this topic. Per your interest, I may try to push it out a little quicker. Until then, here’s my Best of the 2000s list, which, if I were creating today, would probably look a little different. And so it goes.

http://withrowag13.blogspot.com/2011/05/top-10-of-2000s.
htmlAlex Withrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15887018476048271594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4784665635104956142.post-27882454717019418892011-06-13T13:45:40.687-04:002011-06-13T13:45:40.687-04:00“Some will hail The Tree of Life as the century’s ...“Some will hail The Tree of Life as the century’s first masterpiece, others will dismiss it as philosophical garbage.
